“EuroPride is a pan-European international LGBTI event featuring a Pride parade, hosted by a different European city each year. The host city is usually one with an established LGBTI Pride event or a strong LGBTI community. When voting for the host city, the experience of the organisers, the political significance of the event for the region and host city’s LGBTI friendliness all come into play.
The EuroPride licence is owned by European Pride Organisers Association, an umbrella organisation for European Pride organisers. The host city of the Association and therefore is chosen by member organisations.”
Belfast Pride formally submitted a Letter of Intent to EPOA in 2019 and since then, we have reached the shortlist to host EuroPride 2023 along with Malta and Rotterdam. Prides across Europe will vote on the three shortlisted bids on the 3rd and 4th of October 2020 and decide who gets to host EuroPride in 2023.
We are proud of Belfast Pride – a Pride festival grounded in community and focused on Equality while delivering an ambitious programme that brings the city alive, mixing protest and celebration bringing affirmation and visibility for LGBT+ people. We are proud of our city – Belfast is a welcoming and optimistic city with a rich, unfinished history and an open invitation to visitors join the conversation and enjoy our famous hospitality.
We want EuroPride 2023 to be about ‘Change’ and to mix protest and celebration as Belfast Pride does. We want to focus on LGBT+ Rights across Europe and see what we can learn from each other in working to full Equality.
